Your custom guitar begins in a climate controlled environment, where the components are slowly cured. Allowing for the proper moisture content in the wood during each stage of construction.
The construction of the box is always made from solid woods in order to provide reliable tone and balance. After all, your guitar is a legacy meant to last for generations. Choices of the finest qualities and types of wood are available to give your guitar just the look and finish you desire. Some of our favorites are Adirondack Spruce, Mahogany, Rosewood and Cedar however, your selections are virtually unlimited.
In the timeless standard of quality construction, each guitar is crafted with a dovetail neck joint and solid spruce cross bracing that is quarter sawn to provide maximum stability for the box. Cedar kerfing is the secret to picking up your guitar and being greeted by a warm and familiar fragrance. Soft finishes are enhanced by Steven’s signature blend of oiling ingredients making your guitar a pleasure to hold. Wood bindings, bone saddles and nuts create an earthy beauty that reflects the Adirondack birthplace of each S.L. Smith custom guitar. Handmade Russian rosettes can be added to complete your visual masterpiece.

This time spent playing and recording has provided him with a solid insight into acoustic guitar sound and quality. The natural balance of acoustic instruments comes not only from sound but from what your other senses bring to the experience.
